Visual Storytelling

Learning visual storytelling is key for up-and-coming applied artists because it helps you make art that really connects with others. It’s not just about cool visuals—it’s about conveying stories with intent. Through dynamic illustrations, sketch booking, watercolor paintings, painting series, installations, sculptures, and process sheets, learner use a wide array of mediums to express their creative abilities.

Each learner will create at the minimum 5 program-specific artwork series aimed at their schools of choice.

Figure Drawing and Anatomy Studies

Applied artists benefit immensely from practicing figure drawing and anatomy because it build a strong foundation for creating believable, expressive work. Whether you're animating, designing characters, or 3D modeling/sculpting understanding how the human body moves and functions helps you create more natural, dynamic poses and storytelling. It’s not just about realism—studying anatomy gives us the tools to stylize and exaggerate with purpose. It improves our sense of proportion, balance, and flow, and helps artists avoid stiff or awkward designs. We also train your eye to observe subtle details, like gestures and weight, and shading which bring our work to life. Designers also benefit from a good understanding of the human form. Whether it is an ergonomic design or an occupant-friendly space, any products or services should revolve around humans.

Traditional Fine Art

This is the starting point for applied artists and also where we refine our skills as traditional art helps build a strong artistic foundation. Skills like shapes & composition, structure, perspective, line quality, and color theory. all come from traditional fine art training—and they translate directly into fields like animation, graphic design, game design, and much more.

Fine art also teaches you how to think creatively, solve visual problems, and develop our personal style as professional artists. It sharpens our observational skills, deepens our understanding of form and light, and encourages a thoughtful, intentional approach to our work.

Even in digital or commercial settings, that fine art background gives our work more depth and polish. It’s not just about making things look good—it’s about knowing why they look good and how to improve.

Learners will create a variety of creative fine artworks during the portfolio preparation program.
