Course Mission
The program strives to provide a technical education, preparing students for the basic of animation and technical render for architecture , collaboration and professionalism. Through innovative teaching, local and international partnerships and the highest standards of artistic and academic excellence, the program seeks to ensure student understand the essentials of a 3D pipeline.
Course Summary
3D modeling is an intro class that focuses on the use of software that is regularly seen in the current game/VFX industry. Including Maya, Arnold render and Z-brush. Students will learn how to navigate and understand the logic behind the software. This course is designed to help students learn while making interesting and good-looking art pieces, starting with simple functions and then diving into more complicated features.

- Create a couple 3D assets for future class’ use
- Understand the basic of Arnold render and basic virtual lighting;
- Learn the industrial pipeline for 3D asset creation;
- Learn how to create organic sculpt with Zbrush;
- Build representational e-portfolio pieces that showcases their design work;

Course Content with Time Allocation
software installation & Interface of Maya
– 1 Week
Learn the basic interface of Maya. Know how to do basic shapes creation.
Modeling tools introduction
– 1 Week
Introduce the 9 basic tools and start on the first modeling project. Material in Maya, lighting and Arnold render.
The poster background project – 3 Weeks
With an IP decided by students, we’ll create a poster render. To use the tools and understand perspective in 3D views. Finished as a potential portfolio piece.
Character Sculpt basic – 2 Weeks
Learn the basic of Zbrush, interface and functions. Start the rough of a character for the poster use.
Character Sculpt full – 4 Weeks
Sculpt the details of character for poster use, understand more advanced use of Zbrush and how to render vertex color sculpt with arnold.
Final compose – 1 Weeks
Final composite of the character from zbrush and maya background for final poster render
